Coach Hunt has over 30 years of coaching experience.  In his inaugural season Coach Hunt led the CDM Girl's team to a 2024 CIF Division 1 Championship.  Subsequently, he was selected as the CIF Division 1 Coach of the Year, Daily Pilot Coach of the Year, and the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce CDM Coach of the Year. Five of Coach Hunt's players were selected All-CIF, including CIF Player of the Year and Stanford University commit, Reagan Weir. The 2025 season found Hunt guiding his Sea Queens into the CIF Open Division with another five All-CIF Awards, and four more seniors joining their teammate Reagan Weir with college commits.  Gabby MacAfee will attend LMU, Didi Evans to Princeton, Mackenzie Dollander to San Diego State, and Audrey Long to Brown University.

Coach Hunt served as the UC Irvine Men’s Head Coach from 2005-2021. Head coaching the women’s UC Irvine team in 2004, Hunt was also the UCI Men’s assistant from 1999-2005.  An overall twenty-three year career at UCI Hunt produced ten seasons ranked in the Nations Top 5, thirty-eight All Americans, three Olympians, and one NCAA Cutino Award Winner.  Four of Coach Hunt’s former players are current collegiate coaches. He was awarded MPSF Coach of the Year twice and USA Water Polo Elite Coach of the Year once. 

Hunt has led all age group teams with Back Bay Water Polo Club at some point in time, during his twenty-one year tenure with Back Bay.  He has earned JO Medals with the 10u Coed, 10uGirls, 12uGirls, and 14uBoys.  Most recently, Hunt led Back Bay 12uGirls to a Silver Medal Finish to the 2025 Futures Super Final. In 2024 Hunt's 12uGirls team took 4th at the Super Final and 12th in Platinum JO's.

Notable players that Hunt has coached at the youth level are Brianna Daboub (USC - 3 time All American,) Maddie Musselman (UCLA - 2 x Olympian,) Kyle and Jack Trush (UCI -All American,) Anthony Daboub (UCLA - NCAA Champion.) Over fifty of Coach Hunt’s former players have moved on to play NCAA Division I, II, and III.

Coach Hunt served as the USA Men’s National Team “B” Team Head Coach 2008-2013.  He head coached Team USA to a 4th place finish at the 2011 World University Games in ShenZhen, China.  He subsequently served as the Interim USA Men's National Team Head Coach in 2013, scoring a gold medal in 2013 UANA Qualification Tournament. 

Coach Hunt was a 2 x NCAA Division I All American (92,93) at UC Irvine.  He captained his senior year team to their third straight NCAA DI Semi-final.  Serving six years on the USA Men’s National Junior Team and Senior Team, Hunt co-captained the 1993 World University Games leading the USA to a gold medal. Hunt spent his prep years at Righetti High School in Santa Maria, CA.  He collected six first-team All League, three MVP’s, and five All-CIF awards between the 2 sports.  

Coach Hunt is joined by his wife, Christine, a UC Irvine Women’s water polo alumni, and his daughters Halle (12) and Haddie (10), both of which attend Newport Elementary and play water polo for Back Bay.

His goal is to help our young women nurture self confidence, navigate collegiate paths, be great teammates, foster self discipline and self motivation, while arming them with the tools to chase excellence. His first coach, John Marsh, was able to plant that seed with him, and it fueled his passion. “Training can be effective and fun at the same time.  Competing helps teach the character qualities that make a great teammate.”

Marc A. Hunt - Head Coach

Originally from Eugene Oregon, Coach Barry attended UC Irvine (2002-2005), competing under legendary Coach Ted Newland (first ever CDM Polo Coach).  Dreason was a three-time NCAA All American, a Peter Cutino Award Finalist, and two of his teams finished in the NCAA Top 4.  A dual sport D1 athlete in college, Coach Barry also swam for the Anteaters under Coach Brian Pajer, with several notable Big West Conference Finals finishes.  Coach Barry was also recognized as a Big West Conference Scholar Athlete for his performance in the classroom in each of his four collegiate seasons. 

A member of the USA Men’s National Team from 2002-2009, Coach Barry has competed in the Fina World Championships and the World League Super Finals. With a  total of 68 international senior team competitions, Coach Barry has also played professionally for Imperia Water Polo Club (Italy 2008), Lazio Water Polo Club (Italy 2009), and Sydney Lions Water Polo Club (Australia 2014).

Coach Barry brings a plethora of coaching experience, having spent eight years as the Head Coach of Concordia University Men’s and Women’s programs 2015-2022, overseeing sixteen seasons in all.

Prior to his time with the Eagles, Coach Barry served on the men’s water polo staff at UC Irvine, as the Lead Assistant for five years. During that time the UCI team earned three NCAA Top 5 finishes and produced eleven NCAA All Americans.
At the youth level, Coach Barry coached Back Bay Water Polo for six years, having coached 10U, 12U,and 14U girls and boys teams.  Coach Barry led the very first ‘all girls’ 10U Junior Olympics Platinum Division to a Gold Medal in 2017.  In 2007 Coach Barry was the Sage Hill High School girls head coach.

Coach Barry earned his BA in Sociology at UC Irvine in 2006.  He earned his Masters in Athletic Administration and Coaching, at Concordia University in 2020.

Randy Galza - Specialized Goalie Coach

With several years of collegiate coaching experience, Coach Randy joined CDM Polo in 2024 after a successful two-year campaign as an assistant women’s water polo coach at San Diego State University. Prior to SDSU, he was an assistant at UC Irvine with the men’s program, spent a year at Occidental College on the men’s side, and 3 years at Saddleback Junior College as part of the men’s and women’s water polo programs.

Randy Galza started coaching in 1999 for the Carlsbad girls water polo program.

At the high school level, he was the head girls coach at Mt. Carmel and Milken Community High Schools. And also headed the boys programs at Chaparral, Mission Hills, and Milken Community High Schools.

Over 50 former student-athletes have competed or are currently competing in the NCAA at every level. Galza has also coached former Sea Queen Alumni and goalkeepers Heidi Ritner (Michigan), Erin Tharp (USC), and Maya Avital (Stanford).

Galza was the goalkeeper director at SOCAL Water Polo Foundation for 9 years winning gold medals in the Platinum Division of Junior Olympics in many age groups. The 18 girls black team in 2021, 2018, 2016, the 14 girls black team in 2019, the 18 boys black team in 2022, the 16 boys black team in 2019, and the 14 boys black team in 2017.

A native San Diegan, he swam and played water polo at Palomar College and earned his degree from UC Riverside.

Steven Magdaleno - Asst. Coach

Coach Steven Magdaleno joins us in Corona del Mar with a plethora of experience in the age-group, High School, and ODP water polo venues.  Coach Steven played his high school years at Tustin High School, serving as team captain for both his water polo and swim teams.

Steven went on to play collegiate water polo at Orange Coast College (2016–2019), where he excelled as both a goalie and a field player. In his final season, he was recognized as one of the top goalies in the state by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), helping lead his team to a third-place finish at the state championships.

Steven’s coaching career began in Utah six years ago with Kearns Water Polo Club, where his impact was immediate.  Both his boys’ and girls’ high school teams earned a State Championship, and he helped guide the 16U girls to a 3rd-place finish in the Platinum Division at Junior Olympics. Two of Coach Steven's goalies were named State MVPs under his mentorship. 

On the national stage, Steven was invited to assist the USA Water Polo Youth National Team in 2022 and joined the Cadet National Team coaching staff for their international tour in Greece in 2023.
